The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Community Advisory Committee for NCEP (UCACN) Model Advisory Committee (UMAC)
Dear Colleagues—
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) hosted a technical and strategic review of the NCEP Production Suite (NPS) in College Park, MD at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) August 4-6, 2015. The review was performed by a subcommittee of the existing University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Community Advisory Committee for NCEP (UCACN). Specifically, the subcommittee is the Model Advisory Committee (UMAC) composed of subject matter experts to provide a technical and strategic review of the major modeling components in the NPS. The primary goal of the UMAC is to provide recommendations on the strategic holistic evolution of the production suite over the next 5 to 10 years. Recommendations will also be used to inform the revision of the integrated NOAA modeling strategy that crosses the NOAA line offices.
I’m pleased to announce the UMAC has delivered its report of findings and recommendations based on the August review.
The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Community Advisory Committee for NCEP (UCACN) Model Advisory Committee (UMAC) Report
NCEP acknowledges the hard work and effort put forth by the UMAC to conduct the production suite review and generate the report of findings and recommendations. The next step will be to perform a comprehensive review of the findings and recommendations and develop an action plan to ensure follow through. It is expected another UMAC meeting will be held in the summer of 2016 to review progress associated with the action plan.
Regards,
Bill
